Fund Raising Capacity Building Grants
A New MHANe Initiative
Small grants to help mental health, addiction and intellectual disability charities improve fundraising capacity
MHANe is offering qualified charities grants of $500 to $1,000 to help improve their fundraising capacity. A $5,000 grant fund has been established for our 2011/2012 fiscal year. Once those funds are distributed no additional grants will be available until further funding is approved by the MHANe Board of Directors.
Grant funding will be provided as reimbursement toward your capacity building efforts. Grant funds may be applied to relevant expenses incurred between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012.
Funding Requirements
- Demonstrate 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Email or fax your IRS determination letter to us.
- Have an annual operating budget below $4 million. Email or fax to us page 1 of your most recent Form 990.
- Send us your mission statement demonstrating your work in the mental health, addiction or intellectual disability field AND provide a 200 to 500 word description of how you have used your funds to increase your organization's fundraising capacity. Simply email this information to us. Please do not send us more information than we are asking for here.
- You may request reimbursement for relevant expenses up to $1,000. Only one request per organization will be considered in a given fiscal year.
- Provide documentation of the relevant expenses. Simply Email or fax the invoice reflecting the expense toward which you will apply the grant. The expense can be greater than the grant request. For example, a $3,000 training program can receive a $500 to $1,000 reimbursement grant from MHANe. See other examples below.
Examples of Eligible Projects
- Sending staff or volunteers to organizational development oriented conferences or training programs. Our grants may be applied to travel and registration expenses. In this case, please tell us who went and what their title is within your organization; the name of the program attended; where and when it took place.
- Hiring fundraising training support for staff or volunteers.
- Purchasing fundraising software.
- Other capacity building initiatives that will help your organization fundamentally improve your ability to raise funds.
Examples of Projects we will NOT fund:
- Printed or electronic fundraising appeals or collateral.
- Capital campaign planning or feasibility studies.
- Fundraising activities that do not address the underlying capacity of your organization to improve its overall fundraising abilities.
